Basques next, then? Bavaria? Scotland? Is the EU "panic stricken"?

Catalonia wants independence because it thinks, being wealthy, it is subsidising the rest of Spain. So Catalonia gets independence , joins the EU and, as a wealthy member becomes a new net contributor, thus subsidising the rest of Spain which is a net receiver.

The "questionable/doubtful/unlikely" proposition always surprises me: The EU basically wants the whole of Europe to be part of the project to a greater or lesser degree, preferably as full members (if only for reasons of simplicity). To suggest the EU would put obstacles in Catalonia's, Scotland's, etc. way regarding membership is to me not realistic - the UK pressed the "threat" of Scotland ending up on its own outside the EU, and very effectively too (independence referendum campaign - the fear undoubtedly set in among significant numbers) but now the UK will supposedly be much better off on its own outside the EU - what the UK would have done had independence come about can now only be guessed at. Maybe Spain would/will in the same way obstruct Catalonia's membership but that seems to me likely only to be a temporary setback.
Arl, it could be quite a while before any nation could get back in(eg Spain would veto Catalans membership) and in that time it would be pretty rough. Remember these are small States they stand to gain by EU membership (net takers most likely) so the EU may be a bit reticent to let them in. The fact of them being small also is the reason they may struggle outside the EU as opposed to GB which is a big influential Nation(no matter what Remainers say)
Has the Express got so bad that utterances on a minor radio station make it onto their news pages.
Nick Ferrari is a nobody with no qualifications to predict anything, least of all the political future of Europe. He was the Showbiz Editor of the 'Sun'. Before working for the Iranian Press TV which subsequently had its broadcast licensetaken off it.

Ymb,
It seems we have been discussing the imminent collapse of the EU since this site began. And it doesn't happen.
Catalan will not leave Spain in the near future, but even if it did, it would have zilch effect on the cohesion of the EU. Even a huge country like the UK leaving will have next to no impact.

Thanks jno, my record is patchy.
I predicted (rightly) that May would not get the huge majority she expected at the elected, but (wrongly) I said 25 seats.
Funny what info you stumble over if you are looking.
LBC is owned by the Global Media Group. It's Chairman is former Labour Party Chairman Charles Allen. Who just happens to also be Chairman of the 2 Sisters Food Company, who have been in the news recently of the chicken scandal.
Just looked at Global's Newsroom Twitter account, and no mention of the chicken scandal.
