Notice how the Guardian has mentioned that a right-wing group has asked for a boycott of Greggs? does it matter what political leaning they are, it is still an insult to Christians, had it been another religion they would have gone further than that, people would be dead.

I can just imagine the uproar if an equivalent advert had been done in a similar vain with a certain prophet. There would have been uproar, shops burnt, death threats and the left would have been jumping up and down going on about how it was a disgusting slur on a peaceful religion.

Ill-considered & thoughtless.

Especially as the nearest Greggs is a long bus ride to Brighton away...
Never tried one Ludwig, I'll take your word.
It's never pretty when the mask of inclusivity, tolerance and understanding slips and truth comes out.
This illustrates that even unreligious people can be offended by this sort of thing. It's more of a cultural offence I reckon as many of the people pouthing off here are self-declared atheists it seems :-)

Would they dare insult other religions, er yes they would. have you forgotten Charlie Hebdo (!!)
I'm a christian, it's not offensive to me . if I were atheist I'd not even dwell on the article . !!

/// they would hardly depict a Religion that doesn't eat pork with...a pork based product. ///

Why would that be too insulting towards their religion?
I agree with Anne here.....as an atheist, I am not remotely offended by this rather daft advertising ploy by Greggs.

As to the other comments regarding the pork content, can I remind people that Jesus was a Jew, and would probably not have eaten pork products, along with shell fish, for a very good reason.

Christianity wasn't invented until many years after the death of Jesus.
Because advertising is to sell products, or it was when I studied it.
ichkeria, I'm not offended. I just think it's crass.

No we haven't perhaps that is why they won't dare insult that religion.
I haven't seen anyone saying it's nice, clever or well thought out - seems we all agree on this one.
'hey would have gone further than that, people would be dead. '

C'mon AOG Greggs ain't that bad.

I am not sure it is intended as an insult, is it? You'd have to ask them.
Whereas CH was rather crass satire. You'd hope they'd steer away from intentional insults as (not all but many) religious people of all faiths are easily offended.
A rather crass commercialisation of a story greatly loved it seems even by non God-botherers ...

Personally I find the concept of a huge sausage roll in a manger surrounded by wise men hilariously funny, and not offensive in the least, but I'm not religious.

The thing that I sometimes do find offensive - and what I think the point of the question is - is the cynical cowardliness involved in always using Christianity as a soft and safe target for insults to generate a bit of publicity.

We all know the truth is that 99% of comedians etc don't have the guts to make fun of Islam, because they don't want to be murdered. Your Charlie Hebdo comparison is the exception that proves the rule, and exactly illustrates that point.
Itchy....I love the story, but for me, its just that...a story, in the same way that Father Xmas coming down the chimney is just a story.
I shall probably get into trouble for posting this, but .....

I had no idea the savoury products based bakery, Greggs ... also published the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

Amazing!

Very funny Mikey :-)
Love 'Life of Brian'. Very funny.
I don't see there should be an issue. It simply portrays the arrival of the Savour.
