Hans Olaf Henkel, a senior German politician says that the EU is insulting Britain by demanding a huge upfront payment before talking about trade. He goes on to say that Michael Barnier was wrong in trying to get Britain to "name a price without knowing what we were going to get for it". Mr Henkel, an MEP and former head of the German Federation of Industry-the equivalent of the CBI-said its view was that Britain should have the "best deal possible". You don't suppose that reality is beginning to dawn on them, even if it isn't doing so on our own saboteurs do you?
