It’s a double edged sword but it Looks like we just might have a white Xmas AND payback for the last few mild winters we received

reiterate that one should care for the elderly and animals all year, not just a winter snow fall.
Whereas in the past I've rationed my heating, I've now developed a "***" mentality, and will keep the heating on as much as needed when I am in.
Emmie...yes, I agree.
I remember 1962/63. That was cold!

I made a post the other day about the elderly should get more support with money for thermals, sleeping bags and ski typed suits in case their boilers went down and was told off for “patronising the elderly” even after posting a link that 44,000 died in the winter of 2014, I think this is very apt now and should also be done for the homeless as god knows what nightmare they live each day and night especially when it’s freezing

I agree emmie but it’s winter now and they need our help now
...only a coal fire in the living room, iced up outside toilet, frozen pipes, parents walking through snowdrifts to get to work, ditto, me to get to school, chilblains, bleeding chapped hands. Happy days!

Really Tilly? That can’t be too healthy only having a coal fire in one room and an outdoor toilet sounds like hell “frozen over”
Tell her Tills, that was normal back then in S.O.T. Frozen windows on the inside in the bedrooms with the brilliant crystal patterns. The coal fire also provided the only hot water via the back boiler. No Fire No Hot Water. It was my job to light the coal fire as a lad before I went to do my paper round. We have gone soft.
jah,

i would be considered to be an elderly person, not ancient but getting doddery on my pins...
A sure sign of softness ..' giving up your paper round'

"We have gone soft.”

Agreed,I’m pretty sure in pre war days they were made of “Stouter stuff” and the Russians and Siberian’s could probably teach us a thing or two about living in the cold and just today in the freezing cold I saw two Australians in shorts, vests and flip flops or “thongs” as they call them, lol
Lol Alava. Half a mind to get one again. The paper lads are driven round by their mums these days. Wimps. :))
Having seen tommorow's forecast I can confirm that tommorow I shall venture out to work in my long trousers ... for the first time since April.
It must have been cold today, the post man had some sort of leggings on under his shorts.
i ventured out, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, no rain which is a blessing.
That's right, Togo. No fire, no hot water. We always had a fire though, dad being a miner and all that.
My Postmen wears shorts all year round !

Silly begger, if you ask me.
Which elderly and which animals?

I look after my dog and I don't have elderly relatives. Are you suggesting I should "worry" about other animals and the elderly in general?

I'm obviously a very horrible person because I won't worry about people and animals I don't know - I won't even give them a second thought.
Quite a few posties wear shorts all year. I suspect they feel it shows how hardy they are.
