From the BBC less than an hour ago. Surely as NI is a full part of the UK it can not have a separate arrangement from the rest of us?

No it can't, but as the only part with a land border with another nation, it could have a border which has rules that don't apply elsewhere.

Islay...........I am not sure that anybody is seriously suggesting a united Ireland, at least not in the context of getting around this thorny problem of Brexit and a hard border.

The BBC's political editor said Mr Lamberts had said the UK was prepared to accept that Northern Ireland may remain in the EU's customs union and single market in all but name. But, she stressed, the BBC has not seen the draft document nor has it been signed off.

Naturally Mikey, that's why we need a soft border not a united Ireland. The DUP have already said they want that.

I, also, can't see that a compromise is possible EDDIE - I've been aware of this from day 1, which is why I've been advocating preparation for a 'no deal' scenario from the very start. The something in the woodpile is, as I posted elsewhere, Gibraltar. Spain is salivating and will withhold eventual approval unless we cede Gib..
All this is not possibly acceptable in any way whatsoever, so, wearily, I return to 'prepare for no deal'. EU will wish to strike deals for their goods and services, but we need enough world-wide deals to tide us over - so we need to jump the gun and start negotiating them - to heck with EU rules, quite frankly. What are they going to do? We must, as a matter of survival, take the reins into our hands.
