//An increasing number of conservative faith schools are deliberately flouting British values and seek to isolate young people from the mainstream, Ofsted warned today in a damning report.
“Within state education there are schools spreading beliefs that are widely shared within the community that the school serves but that clash with British values or equalities law.”//

We hear this time and time again but nothing is done and the problem is growing. Time for the authorities to abandon tolerance?

so it should, but in this pc world of ours nothing may be done.
quite honestly i can see this turning into a war, one which we the so called indigenous people won't win. The authorities should get tough and close these so called schools before its too late, which going on the article may be already here.
this is what our pc friends are getting us into with multiculturalism at the helm, a lot of strife for ordinary folk.

Emmie, worryingly it's happening not only in the independent sector but in the state sector too.
sorry i can't be more succinct, its early and that is my fall back, but i truly fear for my country, with more than 3 million Muslims in UK can only see this as getting worse.. British values are there for all, fairness, inclusiveness, gay rights,
workers rights all to go towards a decent fair society, which by and large i believe we are and that is under threat as we speak.
i
why is that a surprise, Richard Dawkins took out a group of school children many Muslims and tried to convince them that the world was more than 6,000 years old, not sure if he convinced them all, but some listened, he is not to everyones taste but we need people like him in our schools.
TBF most state schools are staffed with lefties doing the same thing.
Right again as usual, TTT. Why do you think I packed the job in?
Mind you, I'm quite surprised at this report as I always had Ofsted marked down as a branch of the Labour Party.
As a confirmed Atheist, I think all "faith" schools should be stopped, or, at the very least, funding should be removed from them.
Jack....was that remark meant to be taken seriously ?
Time for ALL faith schools to be closed.
School is about education not prolonging fairy stories.

If mosques, synagogues and churches want to indoctrinate the young, they should do it at their expense and not the taxpayers.
Agree 100% Gromit.......isn't this why Sunday School exists ?

Or maybe Saturday School ?
Mikey, Gromit, one subject I am happy to agree with you on. All religious schools should be banned and all religion should also be banned beyond the historical study of the stupidity of religion.
Isn't it the role of OFSTED to ensure that the schools don't get that bad ? Yet now they complain they have found it is so. I like State interference in citizen's lives to be limited to cover necessities, but a decent education is a right in a civilised society: how come children aren't known and assured a decent education ?
Perhaps you may care to study the history of Sunday Schools. Their original purpose was not merely to indoctrinate but to also to provide a basic education in literacy and numeracy.
I have no problem in faith schools if they are funded by the church (or mosque or synagogue).

I have a huge problem with faith schools funded by the state.

State schools should not be peddling nonsense as though it were fact.

I agree that all faith schools should be abolished, but Christian/Jewish faith schools don’t teach what Islamic faith schools teach – and Islamic faith schools is what the report is about. These places are a breeding ground for an arrogant anti-British, anti-social and, frankly, dangerous philosophy, which is why I asked if it’s time to acknowledge that and abandon the tolerance we have to date promoted.
// “When I see books in schools entitled Women Who Deserve To Go To Hell, children being educated in dank, squalid conditions, children being taught solely religious texts at the expense of learning basic English and mathematics, I cannot let it be ignored. //

Mr Gove’s Free Schools in all their splendour.
Question Author
Gromit, that isn't entirely accurate - and it doesn't address the problem of misplaced tolerance which I think has become endemic.
Are these Muslim schools state-funded? Surely not!
