Mikey, if they've nothing to come to they don't have to come here. Maybe they, like many others, have heard the streets of this country are paved with gold. Must be such a disappointment.

Probably easier said than done. Paperwork is required...and that is often none exsistent. Whether the result of being constantly on the move or deliberate is another question.

if they have a passport which surely they must have then we can give them 50 quid or whatever it costs to put them on a plane home...
One viewpoint... I assume it's some of the policies described here that have been ruled as unlawful.

This once great country of ours is becoming a laughing stock.

Leave them on the streets then, why should we care, but who we should be caring about are those on the streets who belong in this country, and can't get accommodation because most of it is provided for these economic migrants.
This is not a problem just confined to EU citizens. There are plenty of home grown citizens in the same plight.
There is an EU immigrant homeless lady in the little market town near to me where she sells The Big Issue and she is so well loved and well liked that every year the town club together and buy her presents and cards and she goes and has meals etc with lots of the local residents. Gives me a really nice feeling to know that a lot of the people on this thread are not representative of the country as a whole, because God help us if you were.
Every person we see and walk by in a doorway,on a bench has a story wherever they're from - we can't just lump them all together.

Some may indeed be better going back home, but for others it may be the worst thing, all are individuals.
So the government is going to round them all up. Good ,round them all up & place them in a warm & safe environment. Let us not forget 'These people' are our fellow human beings. Quite a lot have suffered dreadful hardship to get here. As they were not stopped in the first place let us show our well known compassion & help these poor unfortunates at this time of year, & for goodness sake stop others at our borders.

Ron
these are EU migrants, so don't what hardships they had on getting here, a simple passport will do the trick. Free movement of people remember........

/// & for goodness sake stop others at our borders. ///

Where is your compassion Ron, why deprive them of the best Christmas present they could ever hope for?
Take your tongue out of your cheek AOG & be careful you don't bite it.
Emmie...what if they don't have a passport?...it's been lost, stolen, taken from them by authorities who don't want them to have freedom of movement? Maybe you should try rough sleeping out in all weathers, with other desperate people for company while still holding on to your most valuable possesion(s). You seem to think it's a simple solution, when in reality it isn't. Also, we don't have the ability to keep people out...so how do we "simply" send them back?
Hey...some may die over the winter. That'll reduce the numbers a bit.
Question Author
no one wants deaths this winter, that's just being perverse

do you say the same about the elderly many of whom do die because of the cold, and having to choose between eating, heating.
Of course I don't emmie. It was just my black humour.
I hope no homeless, nor elderly person does.
Question Author
then somehow they should be deterred from coming here, no job, no where to live then they shouldn't be allowed in.
If they have a job lined up then ok, but that doesn't mean to say they can afford a place to stay, as everyone knows it costs megabucks in London just to feed yourself let alone find a flat or flatshare.
Question Author
pasta
nor do i,
Emmie...There is life outside London.
Question Author
ummm
i know that, the rest of the country has its own rough sleepers, but many gravitate here simply because its the capital and its where all the action happens, or so many think.
