Female Nurse ... With Stubble?

This is interesting - I'd like to know what the women on here think?

Personally I would not have a problem with a Medical Professional being of any (or indeed no) sexual identity when performing 'intimate' procedures on me - I'd just want them to be competent, confident and humane.

BUT sunny dave there are gender ( ha!) differences how acceptable the patient feels about certain things

My dear old mother's view was 'I dont care how rude he is, can he do the procedure/operation?' which I acknowledge is a minority view. Common in the nineteenth century - s/o said to Sir James Paget - "oh I see Sir James you tell me the operation I need and then who is the best person to do it."

i used to work with one of the first male midwives. He had changed profession partly (but only partly) because of the daily tish he had to put up with (mainly from the father's to be) Women in general couldn't care less i think

It might have been done at the hospital as a follow up after a colposcopy.

I don't mind having a male gynaecologist looking at my cervix, so wouldn't mind a male nurse doing the smear. I can understand why some women might be upset though.

The smear test is awkward and embarrassing, but you can get through it by thinking 'Well, she (the nurse) has to go through this too.'

Having an instrument pushed into a cervix is pain I can feel. An instrument pushed into a penis is pain I cant feel.....being female. Relevant gender should medicate their own sex for internals.

In my experience any man carrying out such a procedure is accompanied by a female nurse. No mention is made of another nurse being present so I assume that the man’s claim to identify as a woman is accepted by his superiors and that this was not a clerical error. Totally unacceptable.

Can I support Naomi on this, please. A male in such circumstances should be chaperoned. Also, smear tests are often quite uncomfortable and a female would probably be more sensitive to that. When in France it was often a male radiographer doing mammograms. The difference between a male and a female operating the equipment was startling. Males just didn't understand the pain they were inflicting - females were much more gentle. I was told (when I went for my 1st one here after my return) that only females were used for mammograms in the UK.
The s/he concerned should have been chaperoned until transgenderisation (is there such a word?) was complete and, frankly, having had both male and females involved in the process, I would prefer a full female.

I obviously don't know all the facts but what does puzzle me is why so many refuse to acknowledge there could have been a clerical error in this case.

The NHS is a huge organisation and something like this can easily happen.

No harm came to anyone and I'm sure the Lady got her test done by a female as she requested at some stage.

Unless the male nurse who self-identifies as female is accepted as such by his superiors, he would, for his own protection as well as that of the patient, have queried the fact that he was required to carry out that procedure without a female health professional present. I think the clerical error explanation is an excuse.

if i was in pain, and needed help, i would not give a jot who relieved my pain, but do think all this gender business is getting out of hand
and all the political correctness we now have in society.

i confess i wouldn't like it, feeling that women nurses, doctors would be better at this procedure.
