Mikey she didnt think it up.....Cameron did the same thing.
Keeping your supporters onside isn't a difficult thing to think of. But die-hard supporters aren't going anywhere anyway. Maybe it was more about staying leader than winning votes/elections.
Mikey, //Its the Tory Party's inability to understand the public abhorrence of hunting wild animals with dogs that continues to surprise me.//

But Mrs May does understand it – that’s why she’s abandoned the vote.

//"As prime minister, my job isn't just about what I think about something, it's actually about looking at what the view of the country is," she said.//

Commendable I’d say.

(Do you know what Machiavellian means? I think not).
ps. Not sure where the 'defeat' comes into this.
seems strange to me she is in favour of fox hunting, i wouldn't have thought so, but she is.
She's the daughter of a country vicar, emmie. For a lot of country people hunting is part of their way of life.
i still think its barbaric, tearing a fox or other animals to pieces for the sake of sport!
//The despicable Hunts have been riding roughshod over the existing legislation for too long now.//

So is your problemobile with hunts or are you claiming all hunts are still using dogs to hunt cutey wutey foxy woxy?
Good, anyone that knows me will know what I think of this.
emmie at 9:44 sums it up for those confused. It's about moral behaviour.
Can't really argue with that OG. The problem arises when certain people take it further to prevent people they see as toffs enjoying a day out. Without killing foxywoxy.
emmie, //i still think its barbaric, tearing a fox or other animals to pieces for the sake of sport! //

I don't like it either. I was simply explaining why she isn't against it.
It's about trusting the "toffs" are just enjoying the ride over land they've permission to be on. The two sides tend to be cynical of the other's intentions.
May is incapable of keeping promises. If she promises to do something, track record suggests she will do exactly the opposite.

I don't support the ban on hunting regardless of how popular it is (popularity has nothing to do with being right). But it's clearly unassailable now.
Yep you seem to have summed it up there OG.

Erhaps in the interim there should be independent checks until tryst is, more or less, gained by both sides.
so they revert to allow the hunts to go ahead, that would be unconscionable in my opinion, but what does that say about our country of so called animal lovers.
people who take part in the hunt are not all so called toffs, plenty of support from farmers in particular.
Not sure what you mean emmie, I am suggesting hunting without the fox should be monitored until trus between both sides can be established.
ymb
but hunting is hunting, you must go after something, unless they use a dummy decoy, so the fox seems to be the prime target in the hunt.
Not anymore Emmie. I suspect there are some rogue hunts still going after foxes. The majority don't.
