The idea of President Oprah may have gained traction this week, but it’s something that has been talked about for quite some time. I first heard chatter about this in Obama’s second term.
On the face of it, she isn’t any less qualified than Trump, but she if she decided to run, she’s got some major hurdles to clear - she has no political organisation and her business ties could be problematic (as Trump can attest).
But then again - Trump has opened the gates for political outsiders to take a punt at the Presidency. Oprah has the money to fund a race, and she is hyper-popular amongst Democrats...and Americans aren’t adverse to electing celebrities to public office (Sonny Bono, Arnold Schwartzenegger, Clint Eastwood, Ronald Reagan...)
