//Amira Elghawaby, a human rights advocate based in Ottawa, said she was saddened to learn that the girl's story was not true,//

Sledgehammer away, it's all guff.
jackdaw - // I note that the word 'moron' is becoming more and more prevalent as an insult on AB. I wonder if a-h has been taking lessons from Mikey. //

I do not possess a plethora of skills, but use of the English language is one of them - I don't take lessons from anyone!!! LOL!
Not only that Jackdaw.......the Trade Centre atrocity is on a par with this silly little girl using the tactics that she has spent her poor life being taught at the temple of pc diversity. Meehh.

If the activist has made that point in context, then it is a ludicrous and inappropriate things to say.

That does not gainsay my point that making jokes about something that may or may not be serious is a dodgy way to use your internet connection - especially when you can look like a moron / idiot / clown / bigot / fool .... delete as you wish - when a little circumspection can save you from yourself.

My point is not that the two situations are comparable, clearly they are not.

I used 911 as an example simply to illustrate that however bizarre a piece of information may appear, it is dangerous to assume that it is a hoax, and proceed to joke about it.
I bow to your superior moronic, idiotic, clownish foolhardiness.
Gawd save us!
Is this thread now the Andy show?
douglas - // I bow to your superior moronic, idiotic, clownish foolhardiness. //

I have reported your post as it contravenes Site Rules.

Let's leave it there shall we?
Certainly looks like it.
ummmm - // Is this thread now the Andy show? //

No - as I have pointed out numerous times - more than once to you - anyone can post as often as they wish - feel free to join in.
Oh blinkin' flip, Shug's gawn and lost his sense of humour.

If I am not mistaken, you were the one who first started calling people morons and clowns on this thread, a-h. Seemingly Site Rules do not apply to you.

If you want a post to be read as ironic, and not as it stands, why not do as others do and stick a 'LOL' on it to avoid confusion?

It's not reasonable to assume that when you write something you don't mean personally in a way that says you do mean it personally, that the recipient is going to know the difference.

I didn't - but that's your responsibility not mine, and my sense of humour is full in place, thanks.
How did he know who was being referred to @ 13:44?
Was it one of those "if the cap fits" moments? :))
jackdaw - // If I am not mistaken, you were the one who first started calling people morons and clowns on this thread, a-h. Seemingly Site Rules do not apply to you. //

My use of those terms was not made personally, or directly.

It is possible that they could have been interpreted as such, and if they were, then I am happy to apologise, my post was not directed to douglas personally.

But then, as you can see from Douglas's response, posts do get misread, and meanings do get lost, it's part of the perils of written communication.

Hopefully we all understand no-one meant to offend anyone here today, and mistakes were made, and as far as I am concerned, have been acknowledged and addressed.
...and the band played: Believe It If You Like.
I am very glad this incident didn't happen and hope inroads are made into why the girl did this.

No doubt my reply will get lost amongst all this extraneous nonsense.
jackdaw - You are confusing me with someone who cares whether you believe it or not.

I think this thread has been side-tracked enough now - and I do acknowledge contribution to that - but I am returning to the thread now, hopefully everyone else will as well,
