The carer quite rightly lost her job, but I am unsure why the Police didn't pursue a charge of assault, as its quite clear to me that it was indeed an attack on a vulnerable woman.

Shocking !! Perhaps it was covert filming that was the problem ?
i did see this on the mail link, and i can't understand why she wasn't prosecuted, spiteful, hateful woman.
Luckily her daughter had installed a camera otherwise she would have been none the wiser.

Minty....not sure that the filming had anything to do with the Police's decision not charge her with assault. What more evidence would Plod need ?
Unfortunately this is not uncommon.
saw that yesterday Minty - only it showed the full video - so saw that not only did she hit her once - I counted the slaps and they were perhaps 4-5 - just hitting her randomly and saying she "stunk". when daughter came back - carer couldn't care less - lifted her bag to go. daughter immediately put her arms around the old lady - so so sad. carer should have got years - hope the family fight for her to get a sentence.
Wicked cow! She was sacked and given a police caution. Best I say no more.
How can folk be so cruel ?
sadly the "caring" profession is riddled with inadequate bullies who take out their own failings on the vulnerable. This sort of thing is all too common. I would also urge prosecution of these nasties, unclear why the CPS doesn't, especially when there is video evidence.
Makes a bit of a nonsense of the word 'carer' doesn't it?
That's just so cruel, there are often cases like this, I can't look or read about it, I find it so upsetting that people can treat the vulnerable like this
The old lady is lucky to have a daughter who looks out for her. Some people have no one.
I dont understand why she wasnt prosecuted because there are seriously aggravating features (vulnerable person, breach of trust, unprovoked). I doubt the filming had anything to do with it at all. You can film what you like in your own home and do not have to tell anyone. I imagine it was because it was a first offence. Very often first offences are dealt with my way of caution. However wrong I feel that she wasnt prosecuted the upshot is she will never work as a carer again because it will show up on a DBS check.

Thanks goodness that there was a camera present, although a second carer appeared to offer solace and support to the poor patient.

How many other incidence are there, where no camera was present ?
a DBS check doesn't always work thought does it.
I am on about the case where the carer killed the old lady, and she already had convictions for abuse.
She went to jail for 21 years i think, done for murder.
Something very strange, you see a carer slap your mother , tell the carer you have seen it, apologise to the carer and tell her to leave ?
Mikey, I saw this story earlier and it was heart breaking - goodness knows how the family feels.

Any abuse like this of the elderly, defenceless and incapacitated should come with a mandatory custodial sentence.
Question Author
All that a DBS check does is to find out if you have had any previous convictions. It is next to useless in finding out if you may be violent enough to do what this carer did.

Its up to Care providers to supervise their operations properly, and if that means installing CCTV cameras, so be it.
I saw the video yesterday but only saw it with sound just now. I am absolutely amazed how calm and composed the daughter was because I think an awful lot of people (me included) would have gone storming in there and told her exactly what she thought. She even apologised!!!

No Mikey I haven't. I might whip up a mega hot stinker of a chilli for dinner!
