The unfortunate issue is that some women are badly hit by the menopause - they have no choice over it - if this means they can keep their job then there may be a need for it.
As the police are not the only ones doing it, there appears to have been some research into the need for it.

Perhaps they should be set aside to deal with the more violent criminals when it is their 'wrong time of the month'.

going on my own experience there is never a wrong time. menopause doesn't work like that at all. You could be fine one minute, the next flaming hot, or worse flaming cold, then there are unfortunately for everyone and that includes the women, the mood swings, which can be any time and for no discernible reason. Many women don't have menopause symptoms, but many do, and often suffer in silence.

Agreed Danny , making sure the needs of all workers in an environment are acknowledged and dealt with sensitively is one thing - singling out particular groups and giving the process daft names is entirely another.

I don;t see why we can't just have a 'calm room' for any officer male or female who is having a difficult time coping with themselves for a little bit- I'm sure men break down every single bit as often as women.

Many many professions have " a calm room" it's called the PUB. Not always the solution .

I agree with kvlad so long as the opportunity to rest is equal then there should be no problems. Will need to be monitored for abuse though.

I have to smile at all these new ideas.When I was a young PC (many years ago) an eight hour shift comprised of walking a beat for eight hours with one meal break of 45 minutes.This was in all weathers.

I think the people who used strong common sense in creating policing policies are retiring, and the upcoming replacements have less idea about what sort woman becomes a police officer than they should, if they are bringing in insulting nonsensical pap like this

It is insulting because the vast majority of self-respecting women would be mortified if they had to have their menopause or menstrual problems brought to the attention of all and sundry in the workplace - and what a backward step for equality.
