It was said by dave, that "we are all in this together", and it seems that he was right after all, if Tory controlled Councils are suffering. Almost all of the huge shortfalls in money is coming from social issues, like the care budgets and children's services.

So, vote Tory and see a huge hike in your Council Tax ?

If only there handn't been that whitewash where every single council and constituency fell under Tory control, maybe we wouldn't be in this mess.

Your future as Answerbank socialist spin doctor looks limited.

err Danny....read you link ::::

"Labour shadow minister Chris Williamson said his plan to raid wealthier properties with a major tax-grab was one answer to “relentless” austerity suffered by local councils"

Wealthier properties please note. When the huge C.Tax rises happens in a few weeks time, under the Tories, they will rise for everybody, including the very poor.

I wonder how many of these Councils will be able to strike a secret "sweetheart" deal like Surrey CC ?
Question Author
Yes Danny....again only for expensive properties !
Mikey. I thought you had no objection to paying more for what needs to be done? I’m sure that’s what you’ve said in the past. Since you’re hoping for a Labour government I do hope that’s right because if it isn’t you’re going to be very disappointed.
Question Author
Naomi....I am quite prepared to pay more. But it has to be done fairly.
Only expensive properties Mikey?
//
hirty-four per cent of properties in England are Band D or above, meaning eight million households would see council tax hiked by at least 20 per cent.
Is this unfair then?
I don't mind paying more for more or better services, however, our Council Tax is rising by 6% whilst our bin collection is going from two to three weeks and we are going to be charged £40 a year for our garden rubbish bin.
Question Author
If it effects people that are ill-equipped to pay more, then yes, it is unfair.

As our population ages, the stress on Local Councils will just increase every year. There are lots of ways that any Government could use to ameliorate the effect of this, and raising taxes is just one of them.
Go on then. How should they do it?
Question Author
Increase income taxes Naomi, and cancel the trident replacement program.
Ah yes, the labour answer to everything. Increase taxes.
And there you have it. :o)
"affects" Mikey
Mikey, why are you trying to spin this to look bad for the conservatives when the article reads:
‘Council tax is set to rise in 95% of authorities while 93% will hike service fees, according to the 2018 State of Local Government Finance research.
The planned increases come as 80% of councils fear for their balance sheets’
Question Author
Zacs......because we have had a Tory government since 2010. Not enough money is coming from the Treasury to the Councils, so they see no alternative but to raise C.Taxes.
Oh dear again Mickey.
