The mother of murdered toddler James Bulger has accused the authorities of "colluding" to cover up his killer's behaviour and has branded his 40 months sentence ‘a farce’. There are also calls for his anonymity to be lifted before he strikes again. This is the second time since his initial release he’s been jailed for possessing such images, described by the judge as "vile" and "heartbreaking", so the question is are we too lenient on people like him and does there come a time when we should decide to throw away the key?

I'll never ever get my head around the unimaginable horror of what they inflicted on that terrified little tot.

John Venables is beyond the reach of rehabilitation and always was and yet it's Denise Fergus and Ralph Bulger living the life sentences.

How do they go on after what Venables and Thompson did to their little boy? I couldn't... I would have taken my own life.
I think trying to get justice for her son is what has kept her going NoM.

Islay, //Naomi no where did I say that's he was using as his defense - I said it was discussed!//

And nowhere have I suggested you did. That said, I’m filing it with Talbot’s copy.
You don't believe the science then?
Actually don't bother answering that - not really in the mood to try and debate with people that are so blinkered they are not willing to see another more valid point.

Good morning Islay. Lovely day.
It is a lovely day - good morning

There you go, Islay. How very pleasant this is. :o)
I am finding it hard to believe that some on here seem to think a ten year old's brain is fully developed.

Garaman, no one has claimed that a 10 year olds brain is fully developed.
No one is saying that. Just that they are old enough to know that murder is wrong.
I am finding it hard to believe that some on here have posted that others on here seem to think a ten year old's brain is fully developed.

Ummmm, I don’t think it is just about whether they knew murder was wrong, children much younger than they were would know murder is wrong, and children as young as two know right from wrong. To me it is about whether they understood the gravity of that wrong and understood the consequences of their actions, on others and on themselves. As I said in an earlier post, I honestly don’t know, but everything I have seen and read seems to imply that they knew they had done wrong, but didn’t really realise just how wrong.
Question Author
Venables is well aware that what he's doing now is wrong - and that's the issue here.
That's why they got such a short sentence.
Yes, I am aware of that, Naomi, and have already said he should be locked up.

Sorry for going offtrack, I was just expressing my own uncertainty in their ability to fully comprehend the gravity of what they were doing.
Too young to consider the effect/affect that it would have on his parents. To young to understand they'd still be grieving 25 years later. Too young to know they'd be hated by a nation. Not too young to know what they were doing was wrong.

Actually Ummm that was not taken into consideration at the trial.
Naomi, sorry for going off track - I too have said it is correct that he is now back in jail for his current crime.
I do wonder if it is necessary for Mrs Fergus to be at every hearing to do with this individual.
I wonder if he deliberately reoffends to get back in to prison? Maybe he can't hack it out in society
Its a possibility Hc - he was the weaker of the two.
