Well, yes, it could be used as a parallel, I suppose, but I'd thought a closer one might be "British Army seeks recruits - Irish Nationalists especially welcome".
It used to cause no end of problems in the factories and mills near us in the 60s when the Muslims wanted to stop working in order to pray.
Just imagine you are in the midst of a raging battle and all the Muslims are looking for a quiet place to do the ritual washing etc. before kneeling down to pray. They would be 'sitting ducks' and the enemy would have a field day.
