In eight of the 10 regions, the most popular boys name was either Harry or Oliver.

The exceptions were London and the West Midlands, where Muhammad topped the charts.

I see my new grandsons name is in the top 10 for the South.

Doesnt the ONS cover those regions or are they devolved to a separate body?

I thought Noah might have been nearer the top after last summer. :-)

I see the Daily Wail is as up-to-date as ever with the news. It's only take them 5 months to pick up on a report which was published on 20/09/17.

The ONS only collates data (including that from the census) for England & Wales. ScotStat doesn't seem to provide similar information regarding birth registrations in Scotland on their website but NISRA makes the information for Northern Ireland available here:

Neither of my cats has a name on the Scottish list, but they will be 13 this year and may be on another list. Though I doubt that anyone has named their child Princess Merlin.
Thinking about my cats' names, I doubt that many parents would consider calling their children Biscuit, Chequers or Tablo but a few hippies might like Moonbeam for a child's name.

Most cats have an alternative name usually starting "you little ......." It's a term of endearment I think. Sometimes Merlin is a "you vicious little ........"
Load of old pony. I've lived in Wales for 50+ years. Never met any bloke who wasn't called Dai.
Oliver seems popular. The only Ollies I know are older than me.

My kids names are not on the list.
My son's name has been variously between 140th and 400th on popular baby name lists.

Some of the names I hear these days make me cringe.
Probably Tarquin Farquhar lol
