My understanding is that these people want a say as to whether to accept the terms or not. Brexit is not in question, merely should it be a hard or soft one.

I think patriots might reasonably want the right to choose between whatever is on offer and what they have already. I don't think they'll be permitted that right, though.
The result won't be the same because the question wouldn't be the same. You could be presented with the programme the government has negotiated and asked if you want to accept it. On a matter of immense constitutional significance, I don't see anything outrageous about this.
Why don't we have a referendum to decide whether to have another referendum? Then another referendum to see if voters in the first referendum knew they were voting for a second referendum?
