My Grandfather was 65 when he married my Grandmother of 22.

The only problem with it is that he died in 1935 (aged 80) leaving his son of 13.

She was 16 when they met so Technically she was able to give consent. I think because of all the todo over abuse in the news etc they should expect some comment. Because it is highly suspicious for a 45yr old to be dating going out with and having children with a 16 yr old.

Perhaps he is the father she never had or at least doesn't appear to have.

What is her mother's reaction to the relationship?

We have a double figure age gap and it has never been a problem. This concerns me a little though I have to say. I would expect a man of 45 to sidestep any interest shown by a 16-year old girl. It looks like he has good intentions, but I still don't think he did the right thing.

The mispelling of the word 'paedo' brings back memories. Some years back, the owners of the local Spar shop were troubled by idiots writing obscenities on the side of their van. Their business. My mother's step mother married my grandfather and went around saying she was X y old. X was less than my mother's age.
