So when I go and stay at my Nans with my other half, she gives him 'man' jobs, like taking the bins out, sorting the fence at the back of the garden, putting up blinds. But he is also not allowed to pour himself a drink, she tells me to do it for him. We find it funny, but actually its nice to have 'roles' and I genuinely like taking care of him like that. i.e. I'll cook, and he'll wash up. Are they sexist stereotypes, or just playing to individual strengths?
Studying anthropology, I believe stereotypes exist for a reason... woman are generally more interested in cooking and fluffing cushions, men would perfer to mow the grass. I also love mowing the grass, and my boyfriend can and does cook! But we do tend to revert to these steroetypes, accidentally, and joke about them...
Are they really that bad?
