Welsh Smoking Ban
Do you agree with this?

Wales is to become the first country in the UK to ban smoking in outdoor school spaces, playgrounds and hospital grounds.
I like the idea of 'de-normalising' smoking. Making it seem somehow seedy. I say this as someone who smoked and LOVED IT for many years.
But...I think this might be a good idea.

If you want to talk about other things start a thread. We are talking about smoking and it has been banned in public places since 2007 and is slowly being pushed out by this sort of move. The smokers had it their way for centuries and failed to put their own house in order so it was necessary for society to put it in order for them. I for one am grateful that they did. One of the few good things done under Labour.
I don't want to ban it eddie, but I welcome anything that removes it further away from our lives. Let them smoke in their own homes etc and designated smoking corals. At work we have 2 smoking sheds well away from the building. Despite all the bins etc they both look like a pig sty all the time, why can't they use a bin?

I agree with TTT. Smoking is rapidly becoming socially unacceptable and more should be done to encourage that. There used to be a group of teenagers sitting outside our corner shop , pleading with customers to buy cigarettes for them, and then smoking in the local park. I have not seen any sign of that for years now. It used to be really annoying.

"you'll have to ban all the other harmful crap in the world stands. " - we are talking about smoking and I have already said I do not want to ban it. Why do you keep trying to bring other subjects into this? I don't care that individual smokers don't care what I think because law in all civilised nations is squeezing it out anyway.
I actually agree with many of the comments spath makes. As usual the comments about disgusting smokers abound. The anti seem to think smoking is something detestable and amoral people do just to pee others off. It's not like it's something unpleasant we could stop doing like not pulling the chain or spitting. Most of us smokers need to admit we are addicted and would find it really hard to stop. There isn't a single other habit ABers would be able to denigrate without a backlash from the 'caring in the community' bunch.
Not sure why people keep mentioning drinking alcohol.
Alcohol doesn’t adversely affect the health of the person stood next to you, quietly sipping their Diet Coke.
A single cigarette can trigger and/or exacerbate a multitude of health issues, particularly in children.
For anyone to say that passive smoking doesn’t affect those in the vicinity of a smoker is to be in denial of a multitude of medical evidence.
As an ex smoker, whenever I catch a whiff of a smoker it repulses me and horrified me that I used to smell like that. It’s helped ensure that I’ve remained a non-smoker for the past 25 years, as I suspect it does with many like myself.
