His choice.Nothing to do with the Tory Party.
// He regularly flies into the UK, to vote //

Hope we are not paying his travel expenses.
he should cycle, help keep his weight down.

At least it's not as bad as "Lord" Lloyd Webber flying across the Atlantic to vote for tax credit cuts.

Probably flies business Class.
As a prominent Brexit supporter, he clearly believes that what's right for him personally isn't what's right for the country. Some may call him a hypocrite ...
Question Author
Well I suppose as en ex chancellor,he would know how to extract money from the public, after all he did claim ,
£16.000 for overnight expenses once, Wow that was one hell of a night out.
Not so much the Tory party though is it.
So he is meeting his obligations but wants to continue to live in his house that he has bought - what is wrong with that?
Of is this just a pointless pop at the Tories?
The one taking a pop at the Tories is Lawson himself. He brings the party into disrepute by campaigning vociferously for Brexit, as a former Tory Chancellor, and then going to live in France!
Question Author
Just seems odd that he can still be a member of the House of Lords, and claim attendance allowance etc whilst living in France. Perhaps they can sign in on line now for their £300, per day, save them having to travel.
He is allowed to live there. As are you and I if we chose to do so.

What I object to is the claiming of expenses (travel especially) if he is claiming them to get back and vote.

However overall I think if you are a member of the House of Lords you should reside in the UK. Nothing stopping them having holiday homes and that but how can you have your finger on the pulse of the nation from a bolt hole in another country.

And this thread is simply to have a pop at the Tories. But that’s just about all Gulliver is able to do. So no change there.
Question Author
Well at least if he can sign in on line , we would not have to pay his travel expenses , Hotel , flights, taxis and pick up his dining tab's , sounds like a good idea to me .
We don't pay his travel expenses anyway. In what way is he "living off the taxpayer"?
Question Author
Sorry Hazi I did not realise that Lawson and the other 817 members of the House of Lords, had their own finances, and were not supported by the Tax Payer.
Yes, we all make mistakes, gulliver. There is an attendance allowance- £300 a day i recall for attending the House of Lords - provided they attend of course
It does vary- some we pay for, some we don't- I notice Lord Lawson is registered as overseas on the last expenses audit- https://www.parliament.uk/documents/lords-finance-office/2017-18/allowances-expenses-2017-18-month9-december.pdf

His travel expenses aren't any different from those who live in the UK. Becoming a French Resident won't make any difference to his existing expenses.

In a nutshell, the Tories aren't "at it again" whatever that means!
You will be VERY interested to know that, despite Lord Lawson living in France, his travel expenses last year (claimed) was NIL - he paid them himself.

UNLIKE peers such as LABOUR peer Lord Cunningham, (Jack Cunningham) the LABOUR MP for Copeland, and who served in the Cabinet of Tony Blair. - he claimed £ 2,471- despite only turning up in the Lords 14 times in the whole year!

In it for the many not the few!! Haha, pull the other one, gullible.
Question Author
Suppose if his vote is needed in The House of Lords , he could always send them a French Letter , and vote by Proxy.
Lord Lawson can do what he wants. The usual left-wing, chip on the shoulder jealousy. He is not living off the taxpayer. If he attends the Lords he's got every right to claim the daily allowance - but he doesn't.
Question Author
Well if your hero Lord Lawson is so squeaky clean why did he claim £16.000 in overnight expenses, or was that just a one off job and has now been written off.
