I grew up in the Bucks. town of High Wycombe and as a child I recall a shocking murder of a young woman, who was shot in her home, by her boyfriend. This happened up the road from where I lived, and at that time, serious crime in High Wycombe was unheard of, so it shocked the local community. I’ve put in a number of search parameters into Google as well as looking for archives in the main local newspaper, but can come up with nothing.
"Blonde divorcee Valda Spencer and her former lover ,factory supervisor John Gray were found dead from shotgun wounds after neighbours heard a violent row at the woman's flat in Welles Road, High Wycombe."
There's a good chance your local public library will hold archive copies of local newspapers on microfilm. Using microfilm is a bit fiddly, but library staff will help you.
Many thanks 237SJ, that’s the one. She lived in a block of flats in Wells Road. I was 10 at the time and was very disturbed by it and wouldn’t walk past the flats. I’ll see if I can find any reports.
No I don't I`m afraid. I had previously registered with the link I posted and had a free search to use up (you get 3) so I searched. You can just register with your email address and a password and get your 3 searches. I only found what I posted to you. It's an interesting site actually. On my first search I put in my great grandfather's name and found the local newspaper story of his funeral, the attendees and even who played the organ! I think I might sign up to it.
