I will agree that white male candidates should be treated the same as black candidates when I am sure that applicants with ‘black sounding names’ are not discriminated against, even before they’ve had a chance at an interview.
When this is raised, all I hear are excuses. Some have even suggested that it’s understandable as employers don’t want to deal with accusations of racial prejudice somewhere down the line.
So no - I don’t feel like being fair and equitable, because young white males have a built in advantage when I comes to education, employment, housing and finance.
And I will support any white person who complains about racism against them when they stand up and complain about racism directed at others...
...as opposed to what we see on AB - a constant stream of capitulation and excuses.
