Yes, but the people you mentioned all did the educating and changing over a period of time within their own countries and same culture. This thread is specifically about Iranian culture. How are we going to get them to change? We are here, and they are there.
Talbot,
Back on thread, the internet will be the undoing of the Iranian ayatollahs. They will be powerless to stop this form of entertainment, and the internet offers knowledge to Iranians who crave it.
That is why they are whipping people for posting YoyTube videos of themselves dancing.
But they will fail.

We now live in a Global Information age, and it is far harder for repressive regimes to keep the lid on the box.
The Iran people will be exposed to other influences (they are dancing to western pop music) so they will also be being srlf educated by the internet.
Hopefully they are not watching the dross that Theland pists nightly.

Those who say education is the answer need to educate themselves in the intransigence of Islam and the mind-set it produces. How do you educate people who have no desire to be educated because they know without a shadow of doubt that their God is great, their prophet the perfect man and one to be emulated, their religion infallible, and those who teach it the fount of all wisdom? Comparisons with western figures in whatever area are simply a smoke screen. Islam doesn’t compare and it never will.

I am sure that whatever the circumstances, when a section of the world's population required education in order to adjust practices which are harmful, there were the 'knowledge queens' who spoke from high, confirming that thanks to their 'knowledge', they have the definitive reason why people cannot be educated, and gradually a change can come about.
Fortunately, enough people ignore the 'knowledge queens' and their lofty pronouncements that nothing will change, because they say so, and people have carried on and made a change anyway.
Simply spouting off that people cannot be changed is an easy cop out from a difficult situation, and will ensure that nothing ever changes for the better.
Thank heavens such narrow-minded pronouncers are a tiny minority when measured against the people with the will to change things - otherwise nothing would ever alter for the better.
