Some kind of new world government cos as we know most are thieving cheating rats only interested in their pockets and not us the people who supposedly put them there.

Hi there, I’m Chrissy studying politics and economics so have some questions if you can help me that would be fantastic. :)

TIA!

The problem could then become, how sure are we of the New World Government and it's claims to be impartial - we'd need a Governing body to oversee them....
That was rude of me - welcome Chrissy.

No, no apologies needed here mmamalynne As you said Who can trust the governing of the governing and do we need a higher body than them but then we could go on forever with this.

Last night I watched matrix revolutions and the governing body went by what was better for the people.

I sometimes wonder if it would be better if us the public could vote for any big decisions via a green and red button as in yes or no completely by passing any needs for the government.

Would that work and would this be better for us?
We did sort of press a button to vote for Brexit but there's been rather a lot of work to do by government since then.

Maybe we need a bigger faster or younger government who can think fast and move twice as fast as I don’t get that impression from the fuddy duddies stuck in a timewarp when I watch our government in parliament groaning and moaning as their forefathers did. I think that the problem first lies with the house of parliament, this needs to be revamped with a futuristic clear transparent domed roof and a clear transparent new government with new thinking to replace our hundreds of years old thinking and new laws, legislation to replace the old ones as they clearly aren’t working for the people.
I'm always sceptical of people who desire power... Do they want to help me or themselves...?
Hello, Chrissy, and welcome.

I can see some practical objections to your suggestion.

Firstly, how could all the nations of the world with their diverse customs and laws set about electing a government which would meet all their differing needs and aspirations?

Even if we could sort out the agenda how do we set about selecting the executive? and ensure that it governs equably? and that we can remove it if it doesn't? Points alluded to in the first post.

And so on.

Your other ("direct democracy") suggestion: "[maybe] it would be better if us the public could vote for any big decisions via a green and red button as in yes or no completely by passing any needs for the government."

Numerous objections to that. One is that there will be technical matters which "the public" is not competent to judge and it may be swayed by the best popular argument rather than the most expert one. Another is that decisions may be made from passion rather than sober consideration (e.g. dog kills baby, kill all dogs). And thirdly, but at least most importantly, how does a system based on plebiscite protect minorities?

Now, this: "I think that the problem first lies with the house of parliament, this needs to be revamped with a futuristic clear transparent domed roof and a clear transparent new government with new thinking to replace our hundreds of years old thinking and new laws, legislation to replace the old ones as they clearly aren’t working for the people.".

Well, I'm a conservative (note, not a Conservative) so don't agree with the new broom approach, but I understand exactly the youthful frustration (and idealism) which makes it appealing.

Good luck with your studies.
we get the politicians we deserve. we pretend to hate them but we love them to BS us that's why all the lefties hate Trump he's not a politician he tells the truth unpalatable or not. Anyway how are you going to get a world government that is any better?
The nearest thing we have is called the United Nations.

Unfortunately all of the members just ignore its rulings when it suits them to do so.
As it stands we have our own government and we have the eussr who seem to think they govern us telling us what we can and cant do.. how many layers of government do you think we need ?
