"we shouldn't pander to the will of the people.", not very professional coming an MP expecially to the 17.4M people and considering Lineker is a tax avoiding football pundit and not an expert on politics.

I think Webbo's misquote was kindness itself. It beats // thank god some people are prepared to stick their neck out and not pander to the “will of the people” ***.// .... which will be edited as quite unacceptable by the AB automatic super-editor!!

Looks like he's just destroyed his credibility as a representative of the people in any democratic country.
What a gobaloon!
You can almost hear the chairs scraping as an assortment of professional liars, cheats and malcontents rush to a room with the sole purpose of turning the good ship Careerdeath around.

Well played Davy baby. See you never, hopefully.
Who'll claim all the expenses if Lammy doesn't?
Old_Geezer Looks like he's just destroyed his credibility as a representative of the people in any democratic country.

I didn't relise that he ever had any, OG.
well lefties hate democracy unless it gives the "correct" answer. he's the male DA, MAABOF.
To be fair, Mr Lammy has not said what you are quoting him as saying.

His tweet appears to refer to 'the will of the people' as being something with which he disagrees, which is his right.

As an MP, a major part of his job is communication, accurate, not open to misinterpretation, and not using unparliamentary language.

Mr Lammy appears to have failed to grasp these essential ingredients, before communicating on TwitFace, and endorsing the opinion of just one voter - albeit a high profile highly paid voter, he is still just one voter with one opinion.

Mr Lammy would do well to avoid President Trump's habit of twitting first, and thinking afterwards - Mr Lammy's position is far less secure!
AH; "His tweet appears to refer to 'the will of the people' as being something with which he disagrees, which is his right. " - sorry Andy please clarify. Are you saying he is correct to disagree with the will of the people? I accept he can personally disagree with what the will of the people has determined but surely it is not right to want the will of the majority to be ignored.
Jug eared git says that "I will respect your view as you should respect mine. The hatred and bitterness is neither helpful or necessary".

Creepy or what ? He and Lilly Allen( amongst others) have spent two years disrespecting and being bitter towards the people who had the good sense to vote against a totalitarian pyramid scheme. He has worked himself into a position whereby an intellectual lightweight can make grave statements with no foundation, opposing more than half the people who fund his gilded lifestyle without fear of disfranchisement or loss of easy livelihood. Not dissimilar to the ball kicker who made a name for himself on the back of team players who did all the graft for him. His criminal brother has more charm and grace than him, and at least keeps himself out of the tabloids and swerves the Beep Beep See with alacrity.
The shape of things to come … and the shape of what’s already here. I despair for this country.

Good post Togo.
Your misquoting says it all about your agenda.
Is it Labour policy now then?
Canary - // Your misquoting says it all about your agenda. //

To whom is your post addressed please?
To all the people in this thread who misquoted him, I suppose.

If "The will of the people" is to be respected, what should happen when a party wins a majority of seats in the House of Commons but not a majority of the popular vote? Whose will should be respected, the minority of those who voted for the winning party or the majority that voted against them?
This is the tweet ... I’m biased he did play for @SpursOfficial but thank god some people are prepared to stick their neck out and not pander to the “will of the people” ***....

No misquote there at all.

Democracy is pandering to the will of the people.

Perhaps the good people of his constituency should ask themselves if they want to be represented by someone who doesn’t believe they should have a say?
TTT - // Are you saying he is correct to disagree with the will of the people? I accept he can personally disagree with what the will of the people has determined but surely it is not right to want the will of the majority to be ignored. //

I appreciate I was not clear.

I did mean that Mr Lammy is free to disagree with the result of the will of the people, he is not for one moment entitled to disagree with the concept of the exercise of the free will of the people.

The irony is, if I am misunderstood in writing on a website, it's really no big deal. But for Mr Lammy it is very much a big deal which is why he needs to think very carefully before hitting Twitface and tripping himself up publicly.

There's no way in which //thank god some people are prepared to stick their neck out and not pander to the “will of the people” ***.// can be misconstrued.
