Although the talks with KJU and Trump was a good effort at peace and there was and should always be Hope of real progress, it was always looked, from an outsiders perspective, that NK wasn’t suddenly going to stop anything.

Play nice and smile then while they are looking at how lovely and white your gnashes are you are kicking the rug from under their feet.

Trump said that there is "No longer a nuclear threat from Pyongyang" so there is absolutely nothing to worry about here. Frankly I'm surprised the UN is even bothering to monitor them any more.

I suspect they'll say that he did try and that this isn't his fault. Both of these are true -- particularly the last one -- but he really did seem to get suckered into believing that he, and he alone, could bring about peace here.

No doubt now we can expect more "fire and fury", but it won't mean anything.

There were signs when Mike Pompeo went for talks, as the NY Times reported:
On Saturday, Mr. Pompeo and his entourage offered no immediate evidence that they had come away with anything tangible to show that North Korea was willing to surrender its nuclear and missile weapons programs

I really don't see the issue, a serial liar and a psycopath agree a way forward for world peace and the doubters come out of the woodwork.

North Korea has made written promises to disarm on (I think) eight different occasions in the past.

President Trump utterly caved in for yet another of these promises - and promised to stop military exercises in SK without informing the SK government. So he did lasting harm to the relations and trust between the US and a key strategic ally for essentially nothing.

This is, frankly, exactly the kind of deal you would expect from someone who fired all their diplomats. He got played.
