Aye.
LoL.....
We have gone from the Lord Mayor of Sheffield to an American baseball-player in pursuit of AOG's hobby-horse.
not Roman Britain at all, aog, but the Anglo-Saxons from whom you no doubt claim descent. And the Vikings who ruled half the land too. They were all keen on slavery. It was the noble Normans who did away with it.

/// Goodness I don't believe there are any rules on how a British mayor should dress ///

Let me educate you in Britishness, perhaps like this?

/// - you should see the lovely lady mayor that Belfast has ///

And what does the lovely lady mayor of Belfast look like?

/// and before that we had a gay Mayor ///

And what has a person's sexuality got to do with how a Mayor dresses?

Roman Britain is irrelevant, as are the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. We're living now, not in the distant past.

Ok, but are there any rules in place that say they have to dress like that?
She generally wears jeans and tshirts.
As for mentioning his sexuality - we do know what the real issue is here AOG - you may think you are doing a good job hiding it but your not.
You are disgusted that the likes of him has been made the mayor!
// Didn't we have a similar thread about this man fairly recently?//
bit like the daily Brexit thread or the daily berserka thread....

isnt the question - can he run the city ?
and if he can - who cares if he swans around dressed as Marilyn Monroe ?
PP, //isnt the question - can he run the city ? //

My question that you've copied and pasted wasn't and neither is the OP.
// Yes there is even a post about it as I am unable to get a driving licence as it is still under investigation - because I was not born in Britain //

ah yes but if you WERE born inBritain you may STILL not be entitled like those poor polish kids - who were told - well you were british but now you are not
( altho making someone stateless is against international treaty law that UK still subecribes to)

Oh that's okay then, you are only going back about a thousand years?

And if my ancestors were one of their slaves, would my ancestors still be living in Britain, wouldn't they have been shipped abroad?
“I don't believe there are any rules on how a British mayor should dress…”

No, I don’t imagine there are. Such matters usually depend on convention and the people involved exercising a little common sense and decorum. Two qualities obviously with which Mr Magid (who I’m led to believe has banned both Donald Trump and Her Majesty the Queen from his fiefdom) is not over-endowed.

As for baseball caps being worn back to front, I find it odd that the habit stems from a particular position in baseball. I should have thought that if the garment was clearly unsuitable for the task then something else might be employed. I shouldn’t imagine Mr Magid has seen service as a “catcher” in a baseball game (though you never know). I doubt much baseball goes on in Sheffield Town Hall anyway. Manufacturers go to the trouble of putting a badge on the front and the adjustment mechanism on the back. As well as that it must be plain that the peak is designed to keep the sun out of the wearer’s eyes, not off the back of his/her head so it shouldn’t be too hard to discover what way round it should be worn. Perhaps instead of a badge an “F” or the word “Front” should be embellished above the peak. Mind you, this would mean wearers having to have a matching clue tattooed on their forehead and they would also need a mirror to put the cap on. Perhaps not such a good idea.
Baldric, //but are there any rules in place that say they have to dress like that? //

Don't know ... but I think he looks sloppy. A bit like turning up to a black tie do in shorts.
OK fair point
we arent wondering if a mayor of sheffield should be able to run the city ( altho I think we should) and should be judged on outcome data such as this

we are making a scene about whether dressed as marilyn monroe he is violating Britishness as we know it ( nay flouting it - cocking snooks at the aged population who cant stand change - burning a thousand years of good British beahviour)

and if he swanned around like Vera Lynn - a paragon of er Britishness, virtue and calm in adversity - it would be OK

so THAT's what Ab is all about !
Mayors and councilors don't run cities, Peter. All they do is get in the way of people who really do, like the managers and staff of the businesses that operate there, the staff who run the publicly funded services, the boys and girls who drive buses and so on. All Mayors and Councilors (and for that matter most of the staff occupying the Town Halls) do is think up ways of hindering people going about their business.
PP, //THAT's what Ab is all about ! //

To you .... but then your imagination regularly gets the better of you. ;o)
naomi at 14:35 - jno frequently refers back to those long ago days, goodness only knows why !!

I couldn't care less who is made 'Lord' Mayor (let's get it right) of Sheffield, but I do expect those who take on such an office, to conform with the dignity and dress sense, that has become both traditional and acceptable over many years in our long history.
Traditional and acceptable to whom? You?
Show the the rule book that says he must dress up like a popinjay?
