Firewithfire - Welcome to the AB, I hope you enjoy our community, and stay for a while.
If I am interpreting your point correctly, you appear to endorse the NRA's presumption, and mantra, that the way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.
Sadly, this pre-supposes that the good guy' knows how to operate his firearm, and possesses sufficient superhuman self control that he will never ever shoot an innocent person, or shoot from anger, or decide that he knows better than the forces of law, just who the 'bad guys' are, and goes on a bit of a spree ...
It's a massively flawed argument, borne of the arrogance of an organisation with a seriously large vested financial interest in more people buying more guns, dressed up as some sort of 'saviour for mankind', when it is clearly anything but.
An increase in people carrying guns must lead to man increase in people using guns, and as i have said, assuming that a 'good guy with a gun' does not suddely become a 'bad guy with a gun' because, although he lacked the means to be a bad guy before, he has the means now.
If you really believe that ny civilian armed with a gun will use it properly and safely and make the world a safer place, them I suggest you have a misplaced faith in human nature.
