I agree Sqad that the Notting Hill Carnival - with its hypnotic bongo rhythms and skimpy outfits - worn by oversized women
are a slap in the face for british culture

Gay pride events are fun, and maybe one day a year where you can relax and be yourself without fear of attack or abuse. Also the events after the parades usually include markets selling gay themed and other interesting stuff. I did a number of events with my partner of the time taking our painted glass, gift and card crafts

NHC is a celebration of the Afro Carribean culture heavily borrowed from the Latin American mardi gras and other similar events. Competitions for dancers, floats, steel bands etc probably better moved to a major park because of the disruption to traffic in that part of London, most people just go to have fun.
