I'm all for foreign aid if it aids our economy (We'll pay £100m to help you to build a dam, subject to you awarding the contract to a UK company or buying £200m worth of widgets from us), but I think the ROI should be measurable, and I'm not sure it is.

Also, if we're giving money away to the likes of South Africa, I'd like to see it linked to an agreement not to do certain things, and with SA the PM has gone there at the perfect time given the racist practice of stealing farms from white farmers. We'll give you money on the proviso you buy our goods/award contracts to UK companies - oh and also you must stop being racist b.a.s.tards. Seems like a reasonable trade-off to me.

please dont talk to me about that IRA loving ba******
It's not charity it's money to invest in businesses giving work to the people of Africa. By doing that and giving them the incentive to earn decent money they might just stop wanting to come over to the UK. The more footholds we have in Africa the better. But if we don't act fast then we'll be behind China and the US for ever.

"By doing that and giving them the incentive to earn decent money they might just stop wanting to come over to the UK."

dream on...theyre useless and without us running things it will carry on being an out of touch thirld world s ch it hole but with its leaders driving around in Rolls royces pee ing down on the masses from on high...

look at the state of SA since we "gave " it back to them...theylll never change out there and if/by the time they do we will still be a thousand years ahead of them...
"in my opinion all the tory MPs are scum."

You have very ably demonstrated on many many threads that your opinion doesn't count for much.

Why not have a referendum on whether we should give them the money or not.... that should drag it out for a few years.
I don't think this is 'aid'. This is supposed to be economic investment in growing economies.

I'm not familiar enough with the investments in question to have a view on whether or not they are sound. But if you want post-Brexit Britain to be going around the world courting trade deals to replace our EU dependence, then you can expect this sort of thing to become the backbone of British foreign policy. If this bothers you then I sincerely have absolutely no idea what it is you want.

Yes not a mention of South Africa's racist attitude towards white farmers or of those savages who are slaughtering them, their wives and children.

Shame on you Mrs May.
