This thread and many of the replies shows a complete lack of understanding of how economies work, how trade deals are won and that (whilst too much aid is wasted) a lot of so-called aid is an a political and economic investment. Besides, this comes out of the existing foreign aid budget- that money had to be used for aid as we have to give 0.7% of GDP by law so it's just spending this money in a more focused way than a lot of our other foreign aid spending.
Given that we have a foreign aid budget commitment of 0.7% of GDPwhere else would people want to spend it instead of Africa.
To put £4billion into context, our current exports run to well over £600 billion a year, so with Brexit in mind it's worth trying to gain new markets.

If it's genuine investment then fair enough. Better we're investing in growing economies than others. But is it genuine good investment though ?
