I always carry a little ashtray with a lid .our council also gave out a purse shaped thing for butts .when I go to bingo they have ashtrays on the outside walls but people still flick their butts into the road and on the path .

Agree with cloverjo that some establishments could provide a or more receptacles outside, however there are clearly some messy smokers out there. One of our local pub gardens has a sign 'if the floor is too full of butts please feel free to use an ashtray' which goes to show how ignorant many people are.

I saw 'Dom on the Spot' the other day, some Councils actually employ officers to follow smokers waiting for them to drop the butt and then fine them.
