Just remembering the football hooligans of the 80's.
knives and cut throats were the choice of "razor gangs " here in days gone by and the knuckle dusters..seems that knives still are a scourge..plus acid...very sad time of the times.. folks are too desensitised to violence nowadays 'tis all around !

Why have they got their faces pixelated?

Surely their faces should be seen?

Re-read my post. Media is not to blame, neither is the reporting of such incidents.

The fact remains that comparing now to then is futile because the whole landscape has altered.

If mobile video and image capturing equipment were available in the past (plus the plethora of news outlets we have online now), people would temper their position.

Sorry not to reply, i am tucked up in bed and fast asleep at 21.36 last evening.

I do indeed take you point, but people discuss topics of interest in pubs, clubs, saunas and especially on AB and all they do is to give their opinions based on their experiences. That is how the human brain works and the conclusions may be irrelevant or even illogical, but so what, discussion has occurred. Many criticise ABers for post about murder suspects and are told by some to wait for official evidence.......but that is not how we as humans see our life.
I am rambling:
You compare your experiences, ummmm compares hers and i compare mine...........that is all one can do.
That is all we can do, Sqad.

My fear is terrorism. Pubs are much safer now due to bouncers on the doors but they can't stop someone driving a car into pedestrians who are innocently going about their day. That really does worry me.

ditto ummmm.. would hate to be a publican these days though ..know what you say ummmm but the personal responsibility thing would be a deal breaker for me....huge repect if your fols still in the business..
Sadly violence has been around ever since......

With the advancement of reporting, social media, cameras in every hand and a propensity to air it on the web we now witness it all, to some degree, in our lives.
I worry more now my kids are adults and I have no control over them or where they go.

They're lovely people but I can't say 'NO you're not going to London' when they work full time, pay their rent, ask me for nothing because they have their own money. Feel a little bit helpless tbh
Interesting about London as my daughter lives and works there now. When I say to her and her boyfriend aren't you worried about all the moped muggings, increased shootings and terrorism they look at me laugh and say what are you talking about, what moped and gun crime? I don't know if living there makes you oblivious or whether it's not happening anything like as much as I pick up from reading the Mail etc.
My daughter worked in London for a few years. She didn't really venture far from the area she lived. My son on the other hand likes the tourist areas.

/// Every time I heard someone writing about the UK getting more violent, the fist thing I do is look at the official stats (which always refute this). ///

Are you trying to tell us that there has always been the number of black on black killings, that we see almost on a daily basis today, but it is just that that we hear more about them these days?
What is your obsession with black on black murders. It's unhealthy!

A few years ago 7 people got stabbed in one street fight. All white. It didn't make the main stream media, just local news.
Mamyalynne

I apologise to youngmafbog for going off the subject, but you Mamyalynne, tell us that you are not a mod, if that is true, how come you have the power to relocate posts?
ummmm

/// I feel safe where I live but I really wouldn't want my kids to move to London or any big city. ///

At the moment maybe, but it could come to you, yet you bury your head in the sand by stating that such violence on our streets has always happened.
I've no idea on figures for so-called "black on black" deaths but there were 964 homicides in England and Wales in 2002/3. In 2017/18 there were 736 homicides.
Corbyloon...those figures represent deaths and the improvement may well be due to better medical emergency care.
This thread is about violence in all it's forms.
Unlikely, AOG.

/// Knives were widely used in the gangs of London in 50/60s ///

Maybe a few slashed faces, but not killings, if they were killings, on the scale that we see today, then I can't ever remember, dozens upon dozens being hanged for murder.
