Well it would appear so, because a student editor at a top university has been fired for saying it.

One can never change one's biological sex - it is determined by one's chromosomes xy or xx.

One might, however, live as a different gender.

Sex/gender - two different things.
Trans-women prior to the op aren’t quite men.

jourdain2 raises a valid point. The reassignment op is not performed unilaterally. It’s the final stage of a very long, drawn out process (over a period of years).

Many healthcare providers require patients to be formally diagnosed with gender dysphoria and undergo counseling to determine if they are truly ready to surgically transition.

Patients usually undergo hormone therapy first. Hormones can suppress the secondary sex characteristics of the biological gender and make them appear more like their desired sex. For instance, women take androgens and start developing facial hair. Men take estrogens and anti-androgens to look more feminine.
Not to labour the point but, they're men, yet to be surgically or chemically altered.

That's me done now.
Not quite men. All that a man is, is not determined by his penis and lack of breasts.

Yeah, I guessed as much, sp. (nods head sagely)
No, it is chromosomes too. But the phrase "women don't have penises" is rapidly becoming "transphobic" and hate speech.
Can he sue for wrongful dismissal ?

Doubtful, the post is voluntary.
Whether one's sex is male or female is determined by chromosomes. That cannot be changed by hormones or surgery.

One's sex is biological fact.

Gender is a social construct.
It is indeed, cj.
Hence gender dysmorphia.
Gender is just stereotyped- we made them up. Nobody is wrong whichever they prefer to follow. It doesn't matter what sex you actually are.
Pixie - it really does matter to people like my darling Goddaughter.
A lot of people believe so, jourdain. They don't differentiate between sex and gender and the confusion is hugely damaging.
We would be better off breaking down the harmful stereotypes, instead of letting people believe they are "wrong" and need to change themselves.
Well said.
Was that to me, sp? I thought you disagreed with me on this... But thanks x
I misread and as ‘to’.
You believe people should change themselves to suit their gender stereotypes better?
