The Crippen case was tailor made to be famous, for the link with Bernard Spilsbury's involvement through to the fact he was the first criminal to be caught with the aid of wireless communication and more besides.

Add to that the songs,books and films and it's little wonder the case sells and garners interest still whilst even some serial killers pass unremembered.
As an aside, the book "Bernard Spillsbury: His Life and Cases" is an excellent read. He is credited with being, if not the first, one of the earliest pathologists to carry a crime-scene bag and was considered one of the founders of what we now refer to as CSI. He investigated some gruesome cases all across England.
