Pret a Manger taking action as to allergen displays, ok....needed.

British Airways in deep stuck for not telling the doctor attending the girl that they had a defibrillator and other equipment on board - as they were on the descent....appalling

But, surely, the parents are also partly to blame...her father was with her. If my daughter was highly allergic to nuts, I wouldn't have sent her to the airport without giving her a couple of safe sarnies or whatever..... They have to take some of the blame but, IMO, they are too liberal with their swingeing comments, presumably for compensation.

Views, no doubt very mixed, I bet.....?

ummmm what my friends do is ALWAYS have a safe snack on them.
In retrospect, not trusting anyone nor any organisation may seem a workable strategy for one's whole life; but it's still irresponsible, knowing labels will be read and trusted by those who need the info, not to label the known ingredients, nor state risks regarding other foodstuffs prepared in the same area. Meanwhile, if a doc opts to take the small risk associated with being not strapped in during landing, in order to try to safe a life, why should they be barred from doing so ? It's an emergency situation. The whole situation stinks. So many contributing to the tragic result.
In a previous life I worked for a company that had contracts to supply many Scottish local authorities with snack foods and drinks.
Every item on the contract was analysed for additives likely to cause problems to pupils young and older.

One of those approved products was called Sesame Snaps, honey coated sesame seeds.

It makes me wonder if this poor girl's allergy is rare.
Pret met the legal requirements of labelling
Not honey, glucose syrup and sugar.
tilly yes I see that now, one of those evenings tonight, just jumped down someones throat for agreeing with me. Ho Hum ,they are still seedy though even if they are beige. ;-)
We lost two days of our holiday when I had an allergic reaction. I didn't eat a peanut....I didn't go near one and neither did Dave but somewhere along the line there must have been some cross contamination.
No matter how careful you are....how used to reading labels and warning those cooking for you it's bloody hard unless you go absolutely everywhere with a picnic.

I don't like your compensation remark, DT....is that what you'd be thinking at this stage had you just lost one of yours in such a tragic way?
The legal requirements being inadequate doesn't absolve moral responsibility.
root cause though was the girl's being allowed to eat something where there was a clear risk that it might not be safe.
My youngest grandson has a severe peanut allergy, it's hard work sometimes checking every detail on things, not long ago I bought some chocolate muffins from a supermarket and he couldn't have them but the ones from another supermarket are fine, I check with his parents every step of the way and when we go out I get his mum to make a picnic, worries me all the time he's in my care.
OG the company met the legal requirements are you saying that they should have gone above and beyond what was expected of them.
Surely responsibility also lays with the young girl and her parents.
Personally, if I had a condition where I could drop dead from eating certain food contents, I wouldn't touch anything that I didn't know exactly what was in it, where and how it had been prepared. I'd just have to accept that this meant I couldn't ever eat in restaurants. I wouldn't even trust the labelling on products.

It baffles me when you hear these stories of people who get sick after eating a curry and then say 'well we asked the waiter and he said it would be ok'. It's tantamount to playing Russian roulette with food.
its a very sad case all round. I feel for her parents, .
I think if putting something in your mouth could kill you then make sure to only put stuff in your mouth you're 100% certain contains no allergens. To do this, you make your own, or grow your own.
I’m glad I wisnae allergic to horse meat a few years back
I mean, is it wrong to say that natural selection indicates those who don't have allergies are better for evolution?
OG, not being strapped in on landing isn't a small risk. The chances are it could be fatal.
//is it wrong to say that natural selection indicates those who don't have allergies are better for evolution?//
And stupid!
I don't thin kit is stupid actually.. I think it is nature. And it's a fact. Yes, some may find offensive but you can't deny someone with a nut allergy can compete as an animal against someone who doesn't have one assuming all other traits are the same. Simple.
I'm allergic to bees.
