Should the public purse be used to fund today’s £2,000,000-plus wedding of Princess Eugenie, who has no royal duties? I can’t see what qualifies her to have such a public televised wedding. She’s hardly a significant royal and over the years her parents haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory. Maybe she has Meghan envy

Apparently the £2m is for security alone and is funded by the police, ultimately the taxpayer – and no, we shouldn’t be footing the bill. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/princess-eugenie-wedding-cost-taxpayer-a3959736.html According to the BBC “Buckingham Palace says the cost of supplying security "is a matter for the police"....

Rockrose, Can we contribute on line, or do we just send a cheque to The Palace?.
Hilarious.

I have no issue with the cost of security.
Whether one likes it or not, the UK is a Monarchy.
Princess Eugenie is a Royal, albeit a minor one, so we, the taxpayers should "chip in."
And the Queen is attending along with Charles and william.
we are not chipping in for the ham sandwiches and Lambrusco though are we? The Police have to be paid whether they are guarding the Royal Family or giving out speeding tickets. They are not 'funding the wedding' they are doing their job for which they are paid 365 days of the year!
And the crowds need looking after.
Be a bit embarrassing if we didn't pay for security and someone took out the family.
In the meantime how many crimes go uninvestigated?
I don't know...have you got a figure?
I really couldn't care less about any of the royal family...they have sufficient funds to pay for their own weddings etc...I would much rather any money of mine went towards supporting the rest of the population and their needs. Re funding for security....we are paying for this because many of the police working at Windsor today will be doing overtime and being paid accordingly.
no we shouldn't, as been said she is minor royal and not one that many will be interested in.
But her grand mother will be attending, along with the heirs to the throne.
Also an heir to the throne is page boy.
The security is also there for the protection of the spectators. I can just imagine what would be said if a terrorist driven vehicle ploughed into them.
It is a bit of a faff for a would-be pub landlord and a charidee worker.
Perhaps we should just put all the money towards the judge's payrise and a load of MP's that do SFA.
No complaints for me, either.
I wish the young couple all the best; as I tend to do when I read about weddings rather than snark about any perceived miniscule amount of money it may have cost...
Waste of money , and, she is rather not good looking. Looks like a startled frog.
There's loads of other things that require extra security. I don't understand why Royal weddings are under scrutiny.
Well done for managing to be snarky in a post made to show your lack of snark, Jack, you little sunbeam that you are.
