Should the public purse be used to fund today’s £2,000,000-plus wedding of Princess Eugenie, who has no royal duties? I can’t see what qualifies her to have such a public televised wedding. She’s hardly a significant royal and over the years her parents haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory. Maybe she has Meghan envy
Apparently the £2m is for security alone and is funded by the police, ultimately the taxpayer – and no, we shouldn’t be footing the bill. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/princess-eugenie-wedding-cost-taxpayer-a3959736.html According to the BBC “Buckingham Palace says the cost of supplying security "is a matter for the police"....
we are not chipping in for the ham sandwiches and Lambrusco though are we? The Police have to be paid whether they are guarding the Royal Family or giving out speeding tickets. They are not 'funding the wedding' they are doing their job for which they are paid 365 days of the year!
I really couldn't care less about any of the royal family...they have sufficient funds to pay for their own weddings etc...I would much rather any money of mine went towards supporting the rest of the population and their needs. Re funding for security....we are paying for this because many of the police working at Windsor today will be doing overtime and being paid accordingly.
The security is also there for the protection of the spectators. I can just imagine what would be said if a terrorist driven vehicle ploughed into them.
No complaints for me, either.
I wish the young couple all the best; as I tend to do when I read about weddings rather than snark about any perceived miniscule amount of money it may have cost...
