They'll have self driving trains next !
I'll stick with my sedan chair.
So there is already carnage?
They can't be any more dangerous than the average black cab driver!

over 100 murders this year FF, I'd say so!
I don't get out much,

To be serious, hope they are fully tested before inflicting them on the public.

Do like the eyes on them.

They run remarkably well on the DLR.

It's the future, tora. Stop being such a ludd.
You wouldn't notice lost amongst the human caused carnage, save for the media highlighting any problems.
I don't believe in anything "Driverless",wouldn't get me in anything like that.!!
Self driving cars can be pretty quick ( even if they sound like an old milk float ).
you'd be lucky to achieve speeds like that in London, tonyav. On the autobahns of the North, that's a different matter.

LOL, have you ever been on the M6 jno.
scary stuff, i won't be indulging that;s for sure
carnage? scary? whatever we might perceive this as, it is the future, and it's likely to be the only game in town so we'd better get used to it.

Younger people are not buying cars like they used to - in some circumstances it's cheaper to just use an Uber/Lyft when you need it rather than pay through the nose for insurance. The industry doesn't have a choice but to make driverless cars work.

Remember, self-driving cars don't need to be perfect for people to start using them. They just need to either equal or beat human drivers - who kill thousands of people every year. All the machines have to do is do better than that, and it's game over.

Personally, I'm looking forward to it. I would feel quite comfortable using one of these.
"Younger people are not buying cars like they used to - in some circumstances it's cheaper to just use an Uber/Lyft when you need it " Anything to back that assertion - outside your London?

It will come, my issue is how quickly this is done and how many shortcuts will be taken.

As you say all they have to do is 'beat' the human death toll but also all it would take to halt the project is a few high profile incidents with high deaths.

We shall see.

Kromo: "Remember, self-driving cars don't need to be perfect for people to start using them. They just need to either equal or beat human drivers - who kill thousands of people every year. Wait for when one of these kills a cyclist or pedestrian, the screams of outrage will exceed any statistical reasoning. They have to be a lot better and the programming/sensors are, as yet, no where near good enough. It's courageous of them to target London and in a way it will help stop this lunacy, once it's killed a few, probably cyclists, initially, they'll have to stop it. I do hope they have programmed them not to assume everyone on the road obeys the rules.
The Uber/Lyft thing is probably only true for big cities (it is not however exclusive to London). But young people are buying far significantly fewer cars over time:
