//May he rot slowly.//

I wouldn’t wish pain and suffering on anyone or anything. Upon conviction, a short, sharp lethal injection would have sufficed. Mad dogs that prove a danger to society are, quite rightly, humanely despatched.
While I agree with Naomi, it never really occurred to me before how much more expensive it is to execute someone than to give them life imprisonment, once all the appeals have been completed and years of solitary confinement.

If the case is proven beyond doubt the simple solution is to ditch the appeals.
Oh dear,how sad,never mind.
Fatalbertfixer, Abducting, abusing, and murdering little girls is sadder still .... and that I really do mind.
Hard cases make bad law.
There'll be very little sympathy for this child murder but that doesn't mean we, as a society, should be dragged down to his vile level.
Naomi, please believe me,I totally agree with you,but I am not going to lose sleep on the attack on **** who did unspeakable things to that poor little mite
^good!

sandyRoe, a short sharp lethal injection would reduce us to nowhere near his vile level. We’d be doing society a favour.
If it is proved without a shadow of doubt then the death penalty should be given. I would much rather that then condoning torture. No matter what the person has done it is sickening to think some people would inflict torture on anyone. That lowers us to the same level as the perpretator.Get rid of them by lethal injection not torture.
^^^^than condoning
How does society cope? It really doesn't.
Would there be a hierarchy of victims? If the murder of a child merits the death penalty why not the murder of a police officer, or that of a frail old pensioner during a burglary of their home?
It's more than 50 years since our society abolished the death penalty. It's now as much a part of history as the rack or transportation.
How do prisons cope Sandy. What's the answer?
Prisons are dreadful, violent, places. Convicted murderers should spend the rest of their lives there. They've done the crime, they've got to do the time.
Lethal injection as practised in the US is torture. A British hangman could dispatch a prisoner within 15 seconds of entering his cell.
Vets manage well enough, jackdaw.
vile nasty "thing" deserves all he gets
True. That's why I don't understand the long drawn-out procedure the US use.
Perhaps there's an element of 'revenge' in it in the US - making the culprit suffer - not something I would ever condone.
