Te sad thing is that, had there not been a public outcry, this piece of slime would be out on the streets. Anyone who wanted to let this guy out has no place in public office.

Just occasionally, a decision is so indefensible, and causes such dismay, that the people concerned are shamed into backtracking on it.

I think I heard on the news that this case has caused a review of parole procedures in general, particularly with regard to them having to disclose the reasoning and justification behind their decisions - which I don't think they did in this case - part of the reason it caused such outrage in the first place.

luders there can be no reasoning and justification in this case. The people that thought it was ok to let this low life out have serious problems and need to get help. They are certainly un fit to be on the parole board.

Exactly, which is why it's been overruled. I think the review means that in future they'll have to explain how they arrive at these decisions, which can only be good. They might have to come up with something better than 'He said he's sorry and has behaved himself in prison', when they know it'll be subject to scrutiny.
