...............or wot? Not for me. The seven MP's who've resigned are a disgrace. They're hypocrites. One of them said she was ashamed of Labour. However, they are not resigning from the commons. What do their constituents think of them? The people who voted for a Labour MP? If they didn't vote for a Labour MP, why not resign, stand again as an Independent and see how much the people want them? But it's one thing having principles. It's another putting them into practice.

Ooooh Jeremy Cooorbin .... eh Gromit.

Got you hammer and sickle flag ready?
It'd just be foolish to resign from the job when they opt to leave the political club they were in. The two are unconnected. And constituents vote for a representative not a party. They may be swayed by a party the candidate is a member of, but representatives don't and shouldn't always follow the party line, so it's foolish to take only party membership into consideration when choosing a representative.
Jim, //but to describe these MPs as hypocrites as the OP does is surely going too far. //

Standing for election representing the Labour Party with its leader they disagreed with made them hypocrites. They should stand for re-election. If the electorate really vote for the man/woman, they should have no problem in retaining their seats.
In Luciana Berger's case in particular, the events of the last couple of years may have turned disagreement into something far, far stronger, no?
That's only fair if whenever constituents lose faith in their representative they could force an election. If the MP still represents them well they should have no problem in retaining their seat.
These seven will be just as ineffectual out of Labour, as they were in it.so nothing will change.

This is the wrong time for 7 pointless by-elections.

Going off their record, rejecting the Labour leadership result, rejecting the EU Referendum result, they have utter contempt for the result of the public voting anyway.

The Magnificent Seven? The Maleficent Seven, more like.
Calling for a second referendum to ratify the Withdrawal agreement isn't about rejecting the first referendum. Indeed, as I've pointed out earlier, some or most of the leading voices of Leave in Parliament used to back this approach, including David Davis.

As to whether Chuka would have been an effective leader of Labour... well, clearly it's sooooooo much better with Corbyn, huh.
I am reminded of my reply on here when Chuka stood for leader in 2017

// Chuka Umunna is terrible. Hope he never becomes leader of anything.

Whereas you believe the current terrorist sympathiser and appeaser is doing a sterling job?
I don't think it is pointless, Gromit. If they represent Labour strongholds, they're no longer representing the majority of their constituents who voted for a Labour candidate. Were they representing me, I'd want an election because I don't vote for independent candidates or for minority parties.
The Recall of MPs Act allows for by-election to be held an if 10% of an MPs constituency sign a petition calling for a by-election.
Ian Paisley Jr narrowly avoided that fate a couple of years ago (with a little help from the electoral commission, who only opened 3 voting venues out of a possible 10).
Might help if I read my own links.
A Recall is triggered when:
// Member is sentenced to a prison term or is suspended from the House for at least 21 sitting days. //

Which does not apply here.
// Whereas you believe the current terrorist sympathiser and appeaser is doing a sterling job? //

No, Corbyn is a terrible leader and a liability. But Labour are stuck with him.
Just as a matter if interest, could Corbyns constituency deselect him?
dannyK13

His constituency party could de-select him, but are unlikely to because he resoundly won two leadership contests. His constituents couldn’t de-select him because he has not gone to prison or been suspended by the House.
I reckon both May and Corbyn will be damaged if we brexit with no deal.
Gromit //he resoundly won two leadership contests//
A lot has happened since then.
I don't think by-elections are required. They're still basically labour MPs even though they're calling themselves independent.

Sometimes what happens is that serving MPs cross the floor and join the other side. In those cases there should always be a by-election.
Yes they are still opposition MPs.
Interesting to hear Clive Lewis say this could damage the Labour Party’s chances in future elections. Defeatist talk surely :-)
Do not know what the CONS are banging on about , when there leader only a few weeks ago had the biggest defeat in the "HISTORY "of Paliament.
