or er as Shameem said: there was no difference to bombing Bargooz and bombing the manchester arenee !
Yikes boys and gurlz - call MI5 ! we have an octogenarian jihadist mole grooming the gullible and biddable Abers
FOr the record: unrestricted aerial civilican bombing WAS considered a war crime ( so noin answer, I WOULDN'T support it) -
and Goering in defence ( Edda his d has just died by the way) said: "come on come on - the allies were doing it" so the charges were not proceeded with.
jsut for the record: " On May 2, 1945, President Truman appointed Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson as US chief prosecutor in the proposed trials of Nazi war criminals."
and screwed his own reputation as a result of his incompetence in cross examination of Goering.

"That assumes that capital punishment is regarded as a deterrent, but that isn't how I regard it. Its a solution - a permanent one."
If the Guildford Four or Stefan Kiszko had been put to death, who would then face the death penalty for their killings? The individual police officers who hid or fabricated evidence, the expert witnesses who supported the police case, the senior officers who did not have a sufficient grasp, the Home Secretaries who presided over the miscarriages of justice, or the public who voted in favour of capital punishment and, therefore, against the fundamental right to life?

Barking up the wrong tree here...
The debate is not a serious discussion about tackling knife crime and its causes.
Like many crimes discussed on here it centres on the merits of capital punishment.
If we were made aware of the formation of a think-tank across many sectors raised by the Government to tackle it and all they came up with was capital punishment we would feel very short changed indeed....

//To whom is it a deterrent? //
I would of thought that was patently obvious.
You rape and then murder and you hang. You never murder again. Finale
You rape and murder and receive a 'Life' sentence. You are released and rape and murder again.
You receive more sentencing for imprisonment and you are again released into a civilised society to carry on murdering.
Imprisonment was an expensive failure at the cost of the lives of innocent young girls.

AOG - // You mentioned 'side tracking' my thread is about the murders of Jodie Chesney and Yousef Makki, not the reintroduction of capital punishment of which you are perfectly happy to voice your pennies worth over. //
The aspect of Capital Punishment is the direction the thread has taken, and I am happy to go along with it - if you are not, then by all means report your concerns to the Editor.
However, discussing your vivid imaginings on my thoughts about an entirely different scenario leads only one way, as you and I both know, so for the sake of the thread (which I think belongs to all of us), as advised, I will not be pursuing your baseless imagined reaction to a different situation entirely.

In America, there are states with and without the death penalty. This link shows the comparative murder rates by year.

If capital punishment is a deterrent, why are muder rates consistently lower in the states without that penalty?

Then, by definition, that is not a deterrent!
deterrent
noun [ C ] uk /dɪˈter.ənt/ us /dɪˈter.ənt/
C2 something that deters people from doing something:
a nuclear deterrent
Tougher prison sentences may act/serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.

The usual response which most of us have come to expect from you, when you are defeated in argument. //
I am not 'defeated' in the slightest - I am simply not indulging your flights of fancy by discussing with you your imaginings on what I think about scenario that is miles away from the discussion in place.
I am trying to avoid this thread being derailed - how about you meet me half-way and drop this now - ?

spath - // "Thank you for clarifying - personally I don't think a thread about murder, with a developing debate about capital punishment, is an appropriate location for humour."
Well, not everyone always thinks the same. I personally think capital punishment is a moot focal point. //
That does not gainsay the point I made - yet again.
