Welsh flag flown on St Patrick's Day by Sheffield City Council

A council spokesperson said a "basic error" was to blame and apologised for any offence caused.

The authority said it would be raising the issue with staff and the company responsible.

As a former employee of Sheffield City Council, I'm reminded of two memos displayed on the staffroom noticeboard in our school. They were both issued on the same date and both signed by the Chief Education Officer:

Memo 1 (from the person responsible for fuel economy): "In order to save on heating costs, where any room in a school is fitted with curtains they must be drawn closed every night"

Memo 2 (from the person responsible for fire safety): "In order that any outbreak of fire can be identified as quickly as possible, where any room in a school is fitted with curtains they must be left open every night"

The memos Buenchico mentioned reminded me of one where I used to work. It was sent by a director and stated " all quotations, whether verbally or written must be shown to me first".

So the Council pay an outside contractor to raise flags at the town hall. Presumably to cut council staff. Utter madness.
