which I suppose is why the coroner didnt want a wide inquest (s81) but a narrower one ( 'for chrissakes why are we here - we know they are dead!' )

Was it guildford or Birmngham the police were indicted fpr their poor showing - they framed people they knew they were framing?
Magistrate Bartells ( Police Fed - we kinda knew he wd do this) refused to send it to a higher court on the grounds

well there were these bombs and they went off in Birmingham
and they killed lots and lots of people. Splattered they were. Blood and arms everywhere. Bodies oy oy oy !
I would have thought Retro had heard of that (1974) - but hey-ho this is AB ! and we all have selective memories. and as Bartells ( see above) said - it was all such a long time ago

so retros colleagues ( other police men that is !) framed a few irish men and knew they were framing them and so did the irish men. And the irish men ate porridge for 15 y

and it was no one's fault

and no one blamed the police and no one lost their jobs.

It is disgusting, British justice would rather charge Ex British soldiers and Ex-Police officers for being involved in deaths that took place years ago, rather than some 'protected species'. out and out killers.

If they want to investigate/prosecute soldiers then they should do the same to the other side.


IMHO though they should let sleeping dogs lie now. Ther eis nothing to be gained anymore from dragging either side through the Courts. Apart from the Shiners of this world of course.

I was probably covering up the detached legs of WPC Jane Arbuthnot and her body outside Harrods after the bomb went off at the time you mention I didn't see much TV but I know what arms,legs and blood looks like. I suppose you recall The Waltons Restaurant and not on TV. I also was the first police response vehicle to that bombing and attended the dead and the dying on that one as well.

From my viewpoint that event was the most heinous of all committed by the IRA on the mainland (maybe Hyde Park as well). I can still remember the terror I felt when I heard it on the news, probably because I was so young and innocent. It's not a subject to discuss on here in jovial rantings.

I am doubtful that these are the men that are responsible for the Birmingham pub bombings - it is convenient that the men are either dead or unable to be prosecuted.

Very well said, Prudie. I'll never forget that night as neither will most of my generation in the Birmingham and surrounding area.
