There appears to be a lot of facts missing in this story - how did they report it? if they had gone to the station (as one would) the police would have taken a statement straight away, did they go to hospital for a rape kit? Have her friends reported it?

I am sure that Kingstanding police station closed to the public some time ago so maybe taking the girl to a police station was not a simple option.

He would also have a good description of the men and where they got on the bus etc.

I am also confused as to how the girl's mum knew that the men got off the bus in Birmingham city centre. The girl was assaulted in Kingstanding, surely she got off as soon as she could? It takes about 25 minutes to get from Kingstanding to the city centre on the bus.

I agree there seems to be bits of this story missing and apologies for saying 12 when it was only 6 men.

I still dont understand why Plod didnt go round to take particulars that way they could easily ensured the investigation was required and got details. A young girl is surely best interviewed by a female officer in her home rather than a cold Police station?

Victims of sexual assault are not interviewed in a cold police room, there are specialist suites often away from the police station that look like living rooms with soft furnishings. There are cameras discretely situated so the interview can be recorded . A kitchen area is usual so that hot and cold drinks can be provided, also a snack offered.
There will also be an examination room where the victim can be sympathetically checked for forensic evidence.
As soon as the mother received the phone call she should have called 999.

All West Midlands buses have high quality CCTV where every passenger is filmed on different cameras throughout the journey. We should expect that the police have already viewed the footage, if not they are failing in their duty.

Haven't you notice the media doesn't usually publish the descriptions, unless of course the offenders are white and British.

If you say so -I would imagine that most adult women know about rape kits - they are not just used in full rape cases but can be used to gather DNA evidence.
Also whilst rape may not have taken place if she was sexually assaulted by 6 men I would still have taken my daughter to hospital to get her checked out!

Ditto, if it was my daughter I'd be down the hospital if appropriate (I thought all women knew about rape kits) and certainly down the station raising utter Cain.
