Be good when boys are made to have the vaccine..as it is them that carry and pass on the virus to girls which is generally known to be the cause of cervical cancer. Seems totally unfair to concentrate on girls at the moment.

....also its the same as contraception..... I mean you can't tell if the boy has been vaccinated or not so there is not the same guarantee that the girl will be protected as ther is if she has been vaccinated herself.

oh...just reread the article...its arguable that the boys are on the unfair end of the deal as it is also protective against HPV caused cancers in other areas, mouth and throat and anal cancer for instance.

Given that the male of the species doesn't have a cervix, Mallyj, it's probably a better idea to protect those who could develop disease in the first instance.

I was amazed - HPV is a DNA virus - they ( but not only them) get into the host DNA and ride along with it. Latency.
Vaccines against DNA ( er latent) viruses havent been that successful in the past. Herpes springs to mind (*)

so a very pleasant surprise and like all important discoveries - totally unexpected.

(*) how do I know so much about latent DNA viruses? two years at Porton Down 1970 researching Monkey B.

HPV causes all sorts of things for both sexes, boys do not 'give it to girls' thus giving them cervical cancer more than women give it to men through oral sex and cause the throat cancer.
It's a problem for humans and in an ideal world both sexes would be vaccinated and protected equally.
