An officer is within his rights to protect both himself and the public - but this officer looked like he was in over his head, and lost control of the situation, as the suspect was in handcuffs.

We often hear that stop and search should be expanded - but does this highlight an training issue that needs to be addressed first?

Based purely on the video his reaction was OTT and that sounded to be borne out by those there who would have see more. On the wider issue of Stop and Search obviously training is key.

The action by plod was not taken during a stop and search. That had been concluded and the felon was under arrest for possession of drugs with intent to supply. He had been arrested. The clip(edited?) does not show what transpired prior to the police officer resorting to the use of a truncheon.

I have a three section extendable metal Asp which I was given when I used to give extra tuition in self-defence to Police Officers who wanted it.
It is heavy, not at all flexible, and would do serious damage if used in anger, please note it never leaves the house.
Yes Balders. I still have my asp.Two whacks on a knee joint or shoulder joint will soon disable a perp. Acouple on the clavicle and youare out the game.God forbid you get a serious whack on the head (taboo). The knob on the end will kill you stone dead. ( Not talking about the Police Officer here).
Mine also never leaves the house but it is in reaching distance should any unwanted guiests wish to put their efficacy to the test.
Having watched the short video you only get a very short clip of the strikes by the plain clothes police officer. He used his baton as per training manual and succeeded to get his struggling prisoner on to the floor where he was less violent. He struck on the side of the leg by the knee joint which achieves the desired aim.
Perhaps Mr Sp should ask why most of the drug pushers are black and carry knives in London. Of course Sp, if you were there at the time then please give us a full account what happened because that clip shows no wrong doing by the police officer but plenty by the prisoner who was successfully arrested for possession and dealing drugs and ws not prepared to come quietly.
//does look like the good old days in South Efrica, doesn't it. //

Nahh…...in the good old days there the abused had nice warm necklaces handed to them.
“I just can't see why it was necessary to use a truncheon to subdue someone who was handcuffed.”

All fine and dandy. From the comfort of your own armchair while you’re watching the snooker. Try discussing the matter with a police officer who regularly faces drug-addled maniacs on the streets (which I have). You may find that their earlier experiences have encouraged them to err on the side of caution and get their retaliation in first. A handcuffed individual still has two legs and a head (not to mention phlegm) with which to cause harm.

“… just from watching the video and knowing nothing else about the situation...”

Quite.
If the drug dealer had complied as per the police officers instructions and gone quietly, it’s a fair cop governor, instead of kicking off, he would not have initiated such a response. The days when our police are armed is not too far away.

As usual you seem to have your priorities ass about face.
The officer makes a lawful arrest and is resisted and then has to use more force to subdue the prisoner who is a felon
A kid is stopped and searched by a police officer and found to carry a zombie knife. The knife has blood on the blade which identifies it has been used on a fatal stab victim.
And you entitle this Op as 'An Argument against Stop and Search'
No guessing who's side you take is there?
// Trial by non-timestamped video is not allowed, Yeah but no but, will be along shortly.//
yeah and here he iiiiiis!

In view of the inadmissibility, and the hopeless chance of getting anything done about it ..... it was put in social media and not froo the proper channels ( and forgotten)

as wiv Cant Pay wont pay - you can wonder why do people allow this to happen?

in this case, if the pc is identifiable, that a senior officer asks: is this you? - - whether or not a complaint has been made

to quote retro: this is reasonable, yes?

What else did you expect Retro?
Cop went wayy OTT, obviously not fit for purpose.
// No guessing who's side you take is there?//

oh hullo everyone
I am on the side of the police obeying the law like anyone else

as retro would say - - is good yes?
hi everybody
hands up those who think we should ALL obey the law?

what ...... only me?
normal day on AB then
Spath
Ever met someone spaced out on crack?

god I thought he meant ME ! - yes ?

spaced out on crack ?
on but I have met a few spaced out with head injury and boy it doesnt improve their IQ
Hi sanny
crackheads - - think alike !
There is no argument against stop and search, unless you’re involved in criminality.

If you’re not dealing or carrying illegal weapons/drugs then you won’t have a problem, will you?
No, Peter, I wasn't thinking of you.
Cop went wayy OTT, obviously not fit for purpose.

There’s two ways of dealing with it.
If the prisoner becomes non compliant and continues to struggle whilst cuffed you could:

A. Give them a ‘tweak’ with the handcuff handle, painful, effective but illegal

B. A baton strike, painful, effective and legal.
