I Googled "Is Sri Lanka safe for tourists"?

And came up with this:

/// The good news is that Sri Lanka is a remarkably safe place to travel in, and violent crime against foreigners is virtually unheard of – this is still a place where, despite 25 years of brutal civil war, in parts of the country the theft of two bicycles is considered a crime wave. ///

How times have changed.

Regardless of worldly matters which the media has informed you about.. My point remains. What do you want me to do... be terrified and never leave my house? Or get on with my life? Those are the two option retro.
//be terrified and never leave my house? Or get on with my life? Those are the two option retro.//

It is abundntly apparent, whatever the weather, you have chosen the first option.
can we get back to the rather stupid question:

are islamic countries like Ceylon [which is not islamic] safe to go to ?

erm yes up to a point -
Hey retro, what % of people die annually in the entire world from terrorist related incidents?
No the correct option is to do a risk assessment which is really what this thread is all about. The ultra cautious won't leave the house and the foolhardy will go anywhere because it will never happen to them and 'I like the locals anyway so I'll be alright' attitude will protect them. The majority of us sit in the middle and make judgments based on well informed data presented.
to be honest i'm more worried about heart disease or cancer. Being shot dead whilst ignorantly yes blissfully on holiday seems a sweet deal compared to disease. Wouldn't you say?

I'm not making light of their situation, i'm just saying, que sera sera. My time will be my time, and i will actually live, until i can't.
I would go to Saudi Arabia and any of the U.A E.
I agree with spath........the chances of being killed by a terrorist is small.....at the moment.
You will find a pessimist and optimist all over life.. but sometimes you find a realist.
//to be honest i'm more worried about heart disease or cancer. Being shot dead whilst ignorantly yes blissfully on holiday seems a sweet deal compared to disease. Wouldn't you say? //

No I wouldn't. I have had both Cancer of the colon and last year I had a quadruple heart by-pass. I have also been to Tunisia and I would not go back there or any other place where I was advised not to go. What little of my life I have left I damn well hang on to.
Then we're talking from a difference of perspective. I can respect your side of it. Can you at least understand mine?

Usually when he starts one of these barking barmy threads he joins in with the inevitable growling and snarling responses...

But not today.

Has he been barred? we should be told.
Prudie, there's nothing foolhardy about thinking "It'll never happen to me". Things do happen but they're incredibly rare - just how many British tourists have been killed in terrorist incidents abroad? (Compared with the number who, say, die in resorts in swimming pools or falling off balconies.) I doubt that the number has even got far into double figures this century.

"It'll never happen to me" is perfectly sound thinking - much more so than thinking "All Islamic countries are dangerous."
bainbrig, if you're suspended your avatar vanishes.
No Spath I do not respect your perspective.
I am talking from experience and you are out of ignorance as you have earlier displayed.
Better men and women have invested a lot of expertise and time in keeping me on this planet as long as possible to watch my Grand children grow up and I am not going to offer myself up to some religious fanatic to show how brave and foolhardy I am. I pick and choose my company and also my holiday destinations.
I gave up taking risks 20 years ago but at least I was armed and could fight back and was well paid for doing so. I do not pay myself to put my life in a potential hot spot unecessarily.

Just to put the record straight I may have asked is any Islamic country now safe to visit?

But I have never said that Sri Lanka was a Muslim country.
"No Spath I do not respect your perspective. "

Right. Seems that's why we are having a two and throw then.. As i previously stated, emotion getting in the way of discussion.
My question was "Can you at least understand mine?"
Emotion has nothing to do with it. Using common sense and taking qualified advice has.
I haven’t got an Avatar, I don’t think.
"Emotion has nothing to do with it."

I would disagree. I think emotion is rife on this one from more posters than just yourself.
